Why is Veganism so great?

We made a full video on World Vegan Day that you can watch here that explains why going vegan benefits the environment and you! The bottom line is that veganism has numerous benefits, such as:

  1. Boycotting animal exploitation and cruelty, especially if you love animals or work in conservation, is a really important cause. Even if you do abstain from meat-eating (hooray, vegetarians!), the dairy industry is equally as cruel. To learn more, I recommend 
  2. Vegan food tends to have a much smaller carbon footprint compared to meat consumption as production of meat and other animal products require crops and water required to feed the animals, transportation and many other processes. The vast amount of grain feed required for meat production is a significant contributor to deforestation, habitat loss and species extinction.  A plant-based diet requires only one third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet. By switching to veganism (even for a day!), you're making healthier choices for yourself and for the planet.
  3. A vegan diet is closely linked to better health and despite myths that vegans don't consume enough protein, well-planned vegan diets follow healthy eating guidelines, and contain all the nutrients that our bodies need. Both the British Dietetic Association and the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognise that they are suitable for every age and stage of life. Some research has linked vegan diets with lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and lower rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer.
  4. It's so easy now! As veganism becomes a more popular dietary choice around the world, vegan options are easier than ever to find. Vegan food can be really delicious (and not all leaves, don't worry) and they're even more delicious when you consider you're saving the planet.

Start Small.

Switching to a whole new diet can be daunting and may even seem impossible right now, so it's best to start small. Choose a day to eat only vegan food and plan ahead so you can look forward to eating something you find delicious.
